sevasor

Sevasor, Sevelamer carbonate is a phosphate binder used to treat hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease. Sevasor binds phosphate from food in the digestive tract and reduces serum phosphorus levels in the blood.

Composition:

Sevelamer Carbonate Tablets 400 mg & 800 mg

Mode of Action

Sevelamer carbonate a non-absorbed phosphate-binding cross-linked polymer, free of metal and calcium. It contains multiple amines. These amines exist in a protonated form in the intestine and interact with phosphate molecules through ionic and hydrogen bonding. By binding phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract and decreasing absorption, sevelamer carbonate lowers the phosphate concentration in the serum (serum phosphorus).

Indications

In Control of serum phosphorous and Hyperphosphatemia

Dosage

Dose Titration for Adult Patients : 1. 800mg three times per day with meals at two-week intervals as necessary to achieve target serum phosphorus levels, 2. Based on clinical studies, the average prescribed adult daily dose of sevelamer carbonate is approximately 7.2 g per day, 3. The highest daily adult dose of sevelamer carbonate studied was 14 grams in CKD patients on dialysis.
